RULEBOOK
The official rules, guidelines and procedures for IROC.
The IROC Rulebook is outlined below.
All official races will follow this rulebook.
Pay close attention to highlighted items.
League rules are subject to change to help better the integrity of the league.
All standard rules from the iRacing Sporting Code will be used in conjunction with these rules.
When conflict arises from these rules there will be an opportunity to adjust when needed.
Participation Requirements
SECTION 1
-
1.1. Drivers are required to have a consistent Internet connection or may face participation restrictions. Any driver disconnecting due to network issues during a race may only reconnect once. If a second disconnection occurs, the driver will be considered retired from the event.
-
1.2. All rules outlined in the iRacing Sporting Code are in effect for all IROC-sanctioned events at the discretion of race control.
-
1.3. All members will treat others with courtesy and respect. We know that there may be tempers that flare at times and words said out of anger. We also understand that the chat rooms can be like a locker room in giving each other a hard time. However, we should never hear of anyone threatening any harm to another member. Any member found guilty of any such actions either inside or outside the league will face penalties up to and/or including immediate expulsion from the league. This league does not condone those behaviors.
-
1.4. All IROC league events are subject to streaming and as such all league drivers will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner while using iRacing chat. Your voice chat is being recorded and could potentially be broadcasted in a stream. In-game chat may be disabled if it is abused.
-
1.5. All IROC drivers will refrain from irrational behaviors on the track as the league has a standard of expectation for its drivers behavior.
-
1.6. All new members will be on a "Probation Period" for their first season and all returning members will be on for the first 5 races of each season.
-
1.6a. IROC hold the right to remove any member that is deemed detrimental to the league.
-
Paint Scheme Requirements
SECTION 2
-
2.1. Paint schemes used in the IROC Series must include the drivers assigned league paint scheme during league races. Please communicate with IROC officials if you have any questions about your scheme.
-
2.2. Drivers may not adjust colors or alter the assigned league paint scheme.
-
2.3. If a league paint scheme is not uploaded for a race a warning will be given. If it happens a second time then the driver will be given an EOL penalty to start the race.
-
2.4. Drivers are allowed to customize wheel color.
-
2.5. All drivers must have Trading Paints PRO in order for the paint schemes to show up properly as they are a custom number paint scheme. Stamped numbers should be set to hidden in iRacing settings.
Practice & Qualifying
SECTION 3
-
3.1. Practice will be a sixty (60) minute session.
-
3.2. All drivers must conduct proper racing etiquette during practice to allow all participants the opportunity to run clean laps.
-
3.3. Refrain from purposely crashing yourself or others on track. Do not sit in the racing surface.
-
3.4. Qualifying will be a five (5) minute session and the driver will be given a two (2) lap attempt at fast time.
-
3.5. Any driver required to serve an EOL on the race start may run a qualifying lap to determine pit position.
-
3.6. All drivers must make a qualifying attempt to avoid a race penalty.
-
3.7. Front row qualifiers (1st & 2nd) of each race will be added to the "Fast Forty" exhibition race at the end of the season.
-
3.8. Drivers will need to qualify in one of the 40 available positions each race.
-
3.8a. The Top 30 in points, from the previous seasons points standings, will be "Locked In" for the first 5 races of the new season. Leaving 10 open qualifying spots for those races.
-
3.8b. The Top 25 in points each week, within the current seasons points standings, will be "Locked In" for the remainder of the season. Leaving 15 open qualifying spots for those remaining races.
-
3.8bb. *The Top 25 "Locked In" positions may vary from week to week based on points standings.
-
-
3.8c. Drivers eligible for a "Locked In" position must make a competitive qualifying attempt.
-
3.8cc. Any driver, whether it be a "Locked In" driver or not, that makes the race but does not complete a competitive qualifying lap will be given an EOL to start the race AND a Green Flag Pass Through Penalty.
-
*This rule is to ensure that all drivers are competeing for their position on the track, but also protects drivers from events that may occur out of their control. Ex. Connection Issues during qualifying, personal issue that causes one to miss the qualifying session, etc.
-
If there are 40 or less drivers total in the session AND you don't complete a qualifying lap the same penalty will be given. You must complete a competitive qualifying lap to stay away from penalty.
-
-
-
3.8d. If you do not make the race, you will be given provisional points.
-
Pacing Under Caution
SECTION 4
-
4.1. All drivers shall refrain from driving through the pace car during broadcasted events.
-
4.2. While pacing, the leader must maintain a maximum distance of two (2) car lengths between their car and the pace car. All other drivers must be within one (1) car length maximum of the car in front of them before the pace car turns down pit road or may face a penalty. At no time may a driver lay back in order to gain an advantage. Any attempt at doing so will result in a penalty.
-
4.3. Any contact with another driver while pacing, either before the green flag or while under caution, is prohibited and subject to penalty.
-
4.4. Drivers should refrain from driving in the grass while pacing.
-
4.5. If a driver is unable to maintain pace speed the drivers behind them should pass and catch up to the field.
Starts & Restarts
SECTION 5
-
5.1. On the initial start: All drivers will start when the green is displayed, maintain the lane assigned to them and remain above the apron until crossing the start/finish line. Subject to a post race penalty for violation. Changing lanes or going below the apron to avoid a wreck is approved. Cars should be no more than a car length apart when taking the green. All starts are subject to review.
-
5.2. On all restarts: The race leader gets lane choice and dictates the restart after entering the restart zone. All drivers must stay in their lane through the start/finish line after the leader restarts the race. Subject to a post race penalty for violation. Changing lanes or going below the apron to avoid a wreck is approved. Cars should be no more than a car length apart when taking the green. All restarts are subject to review.
-
5.3. The lead car must maintain pace speed before taking the green flag. Dropping 5 mph below pace speed on the restart will be subject to a post race penalty as this is viewed as tampering with the start/restart. These incidents are reviewable and protestable. This is viewed as manipulating a start.
-
5.4. If a driver is found manipulating the start/restart by "brake checking" or "starting and stopping" to brake check the field, it will be subject to a post race penalty as this is viewed as tampering with the start/restart. These incidents are reviewable and protestable.
-
5.5. Single file restarts will be enforced when having two cautions within 10 laps of each other.
Racing Procedures
SECTION 6
-
6.1. Aside from triggering a caution, in-race actions including incidental contact are considered racing unless deemed by race control as intentional wrecking.
-
6.2. Any in-race actions may be protested; however, continuous frivolous protesting may result in the protestor receiving a penalty.
-
6.3. Blocking is allowed; however, just because a driver blocks does not mean the other driver must yield. If blocking triggers a caution, it will fall on the blocker, not the driver being blocked, and the blocker will be given a penalty. Not yielding is defined as holding the current lane when someone changes lanes abruptly to block.
-
6.3a. If the lead driver is running their normal line, and the back car wrecks them, then the incident will fall on the back car.
-
6.3b. If the incident is not claimed the admin may determine the at fault driver based on knowledge of the incident.
-
6.3bb. There will be a post race review for the incident and a penalty may be handed down post race if not deemed as a racing incident AND no claim is made.
-
-
-
6.4. Bump and Run is allowed; however, if it brings out a caution then the driver who caused the caution will be given a penalty. If a claim is not made on who caused the wreck then there will be a post race review and a penalty may be handed down post race.
-
6.5. Lapped drivers will be allowed to race the leaders if no more than 1 lap down AND you are racing for the lucky dog position. If you are 2+ laps down please allow the leaders to pass cleanly. If you are racing for position, when a leader is approaching, you may race for your position without moving over for the leaders. Be mindful and respectful of the situation.
-
6.6. If a driver(s) causes a caution they should claim the caution and be assessed an EOL with Two To Green. If no claim is given, the wreck will be reviewed post race and penalties may be handed out.
-
6.7. If a driver is off the race pace, and multiple laps down, you are allowed to continue to be on track, but please stay clear of the faster cars.
-
6.8. There will be ZERO (0) fast repairs per race.
-
6.9. Automatic Full Course Cautions will be used to determine cautions. Admin is subject to throw a caution if warranted. Road courses will not have cautions on, but admin is subject to throw caution if warranted.
-
6.10. Lucky Dog and Waive Arounds will be administered by iRacing as they deem fit.
Cautions
SECTION 7
-
7.1. If you are the clear cause of a caution you should claim the caution to help speed up the admins process.
-
7.1a. Drivers will be penalized on a caution count basis.
-
7.1b. If the caution on track is viewed as a racing incident then both drivers will be considered at fault.
-
7.1c. Net code cautions will only be considered net code if there is video evidence of no contact made at all.
-
-
7.2. Once a caution flag is thrown, drivers must quickly and safely catch the pace car. Any driver unable to do so should request an immediate EOL or tow.
-
7.2a. If a car is not catching up to the pace car OR keeping pace with the pace car then you are allowed to pass them to allow you to pit properly and/or take the green flag properly. If the slowed car catches you prior to the pit stop or green flag, allow them to get back in position. Black flag will be cleared if needed.
-
-
7.3. When a wave-around car is passing please allow them to pass on the high side with plenty of room for a safe pass.
-
7.4. If there is a wreck that involved 3 or more cars, AND the caution does not come out naturally, the Admin has the right to throw the caution.
-
7.4a. Admin will not throw a caution manually during a GWC.
-
-
7.5. Drivers will be on a caution count system. Repeat offenders will be penalized. See Section 10 for detials.
-
7.6. If there are two cautions within a 10 lap sequence we will go to single file restarts the following restart.
Pitting Procedures
SECTION 8
-
8.1. When pitting, drivers are expected to remain to the far side (i.e., right on ovals) of pit lane until within 5 stalls of their stall.
-
8.2. Drivers are limited to driving through 3 stalls prior to, and 3 stalls after, their stall. (This may be reviewed post race and penalized if not caught during race.)
-
8.3. When exiting, drivers must make a best effort to get to the far side of pit road.
-
8.4. In the event of pit road contact, the driver in the correct lane holds the right of way.
-
8.5. Speeding penalties, entering/exiting a closed pit will not be cleared. (Unless entering/speeding on pit road to avoid a wreck.)
Black Flags
SECTION 9
-
9.1. Any driver serving a black flag on a restart must cross the start/finish line on the racing surface before entering pit road to serve the penalty.
-
9.2. Black flags will be cleared for the following conditions only:
-
Meatball
-
Drivers will be allowed to continue the race even if given a meatball penalty for damage. As long as the car is driveable, there is no problem continuing. If deemed to be an issue on track a post race penalty may occur.
-
-
Passing before the start/finish line while being involved in or avoiding an accident on a start or restart.
-
Entering a closed pit while avoiding an accident. This will be subject to review on a case by case basis.
-
Speeding on pit road while being involved in or avoiding an incident.
-
Firing off before the leader in the restart zone, but giving the position back within 3 laps.
-
Passing under caution when you kept your pace speed, but the driver that should be in front did not keep up with the field.
-
-
9.3. Any driver may request a black flag be cleared. If for one of the reasons listed above there will be no penalty, but if not listed above the driver will receive a post-race penalty. Do not ask for it unless you know you are 100% correct on the reasoning. All cleared black flags will be reviewed post-race.
